The man who fell unconscious into a sewer pipe was first discovered by the cat Coco, helping people around him to rescue the victim in time.

A cat named Coco was awarded a reward by Japanese police for saving the victim’s life that fell into a sewer area, according to NHK.

In mid-June, Yamaguchi Akimi (77 years old), living in a neighborhood in Toyama Prefecture, saw a cat standing in front of him and stared at the sewer area near the house for a long time in the middle of the night.

Curious about what the cat was doing, he looked inside and spotted an elderly man lying motionless while facing the ground. He immediately called his daughter to ask for help.

At the same time, Nitta Tomoko, the owner of the cat Coco, heard a noise from outside their house. She ran out with two boys and found her cat near the sewer system. Together with her neighbor, she and her sons brought the man out of the cramped place.

According to Nippon TV News, where the man fell about 60 cm deep. According to the police, the water level was rising rapidly and the man’s life would be in danger if no one could detect it in time.

Fortunately, after being admitted to the hospital, the man suffered only injuries in his arms and legs.

To thank Coco, the Toyama-Minami Police Station held a rewarding session and invited the animal to attend on July 1. Besides Coco, 5 other people involved in the process of rescuing the man were also honored.

All received thanks from the police, and Coco was given a bag of cat food to her favorite taste.

“I’m really surprised and proud of Coco. I want to tell him it saved a life. Thanks to the cat, the people in the neighborhood will now be more careful when walking around the sewer area, ”said owner Nitta.
